Michael is organising a Tango Norfolk group trip to TangoFest Dresden, a tango festival in Dresden, Germany, in April 2020. This is a well-hosted and friendly festival, with great artists, including the Solo Tango Orchestra from Moscow – one of the top five tango bands in the world today, and the best in Europe.
Michael is well known here having worked at this festival for the past three editions. This will be the 10th edition. Come with us! It’s going to be great fun!
Dates: Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th April 2020 (the weekend before Easter).
Venue: The Park Hotel is situated in the area known as Weißer Hirsch (“White Cherry”). It has a luxurious ballroom. All the milongas and shows, as well as the prácticas, take place here.
Parkhotel “Weißer Hirsch”, Bautzner Landstraße 7, Dresden.
Travel: Dresden is in the East of Germany, 150km south of Berlin, on the River Elbe, near the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland. There are no direct flights from the UK. We recommend flying with KLM from Norwich (via Amsterdam). It’s also possible to go to Stansted, fly with Ryanair to Berlin, and take a train… but why not do it the easy way?
Accommodation: Dresden is relatively cheap, and once we know how many people want to come, we will either organise an AirBnB (we have one in mind!) or suggest a guest house. The sooner you confirm your interest, the sooner we can arrange it. Let us know soon!
The city: The old city centre, including the legendary Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) has been rebuilt following the destruction visited on the city during the War. The city lies on the River Elbe and a number of paddle steamers offer trips along the river.
Programme: A dance pass of €89 gives you entrance to all the milongas and shows, as well as the early evening práctica, which is effectively an open-class for which no booking is necessary. This is exceptional value for a large festival in a prestigious, luxury venue with world-class artists. See the full programme on the TangoFest Dresden website.
Additional workshops: There is a vast range of additional workshops on offer at Intermediate and Advanced level. Pablo & Sofia, and Michele & Joachim, will teach in English. I recommend that you book workshops only at intermediate level, for example the milonga workshops on Saturday afternoon, or one of the workshops with Pablo & Sofia on Sunday. Some of these workshops take place downtown at Tres Tangos, Dornblüthstraße 16. Note: you have to arrange your own partner for all the workshops and prácticas.
Your hosts: Michael will be at the festival. Also at the festival from TN will be Susanne Mason, who is a native German speaker.
Booking: directly with the festival on their website. The dance pass is Item 9 on the registration form. But tell Michael and Susanne that you are coming!
Flight: We recommend KLM from Norwich via Schiphol (Amsterdam). If you fly KLM/Air France often, join the “Flying Blue programme” – eventually you’ll qualify for an increased hand luggage allowance. Currently the flight costs £174.
